Peter Lynn is director of the Survey Methods Centre at the National Centre for Social Research, London UK. He specialises in all aspects of social survey methodology, but particularly sampling, non-response and weighting. In these areas he lectures and publishes widely. He has also been responsible for managing many large-scale surveys. The National Centre for Social Research has carried out four of the last five rounds of the British Crime Survey, in 1988, 1992, 1996 and 1998. Peter has been a member of the team responsible for design and selection of the sample on each occasion. In addition, he has been responsible for three separate methodological investigations associated with the survey, assessing the effect of the change of sampling frame in 1992 and assessing non-response bias in both 1992 and 1996.
