Mark has been using Mass Observation in studying the home, gender, ageing and gardens for over 15 years. He lead the Methodological Innovations: Using Mass Observation project funded by the University of Brighton in 2009; Mark was co-investigator in Writing the landscape of everyday life:lay narratives of the home garden Arts and Humanities Research Council Landscape and Environment Programme research project in 2006 AH/E50292X/1
