Heather Piper

Heather Piper is a Professorial Research Fellow in the Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI) at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Her research interests are eclectic, while tending to feature a contrarian approach, conceptual critique, and qualitative methods. Over the last decade a consistent theme has been the problematic consequences of policy and practice premised on the avoidance of all risk, particularly as applied to the role of adults acting in loco parentis, in schools, childcare, and sports coaching.

Dean Garratt

Dean Garratt is Professor of Education in the Faculty of Education and Children’s Services at the University of Chester, UK. His research interests focus upon the critique of education policy, citizenship theory and education, and applied sociology of sport, drawing on a range of phenomenological-hermeneutic, post-structural and psychoanalytic methodologies.
