Yaojun Li and Fiona Devine

Yaojun Li

Yaojun Li is Professor of Sociology at the Institute for Social Change, Manchester University. His research covers social mobility, social capital, generosity and labour market position of minority ethnic groups in Britain and the USA. He has published widely in these areas. Recent publications have appeared in leading international journals and book collections. He has also conducted many research projects funded by academic and government bodies. He is currently working on three main projects: 'The social complexity of immigration and diversity' funded by the EPSRC, 'Social mobility and social capital in China and Britain' funded by the ESRC and the Natural Science Foundation of China, and 'The flow of soul: the socio-economic foundation of generosity in Britain' funded by Notre Dame University and the John Templeton Foundation in the USA.

Fiona Devine

Fiona Devine is Professor of Sociology and Head of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester. She is the author of Affluent Workers Revisited (1992, EUP), Social Class in America and Britain (1997, EUP) and Class Practices (2004, CUP). Her most recent book is an edited collection with Sue Heath entitled Doing Social Science which was published by Palgrave in 2009. She is currently undertaking research on working-class reproduction through interviews on the educational and occupational aspirations of working-class young men and women making the transition from school to further education.
