Julie Evans
Julie Evans is currently a senior lecturer in the sociology department of the College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth. Prior to this Julie has worked on a range of research projects. Julie's main research interests are the sociology of childhood, social inequalities, children's relationships to consumer culture, gender and early years education.

Joan Chandler
Joan Chandler is a sociologist and Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Business at the University of Plymouth. Her research interests include the organisation of families and households, gender and health. She is currently engaged in a project on solo living and has published on this topic.
